Today the whole country woke up to shooking news of the passing of #geesixfive. She has recently found fame with her hit single “Obani Lababantu”.

The message was shared by her niece this morning. The 65yr old star died due to covid-19. I must admit, this has been one of the toughest years to anyone alive at this moment. With Kobe dying, followed but the covid worldwide statistics, life as we know it hasn’t been easy.  So many people lost their sources of income, lost their jobs, cars and the worst of all loved ones.

It is very sad to receive news of a loved one passing. No one is ever ready for that. Life as we know it this year has been full of surprises. Then how does one cope with death or the news of death ? Speaking for myself neh, it hasn’t been easy for me when my mom died. 5yrs of depression and bad decisions because of the anger. She committed suicide, that left me really mad. I didn’t know how to deal with myself, my emotions and people around me in general. No one is to blame anyway, I am just happy and grafetul i am in a better place emmotionally and mentally now.

I have done a list on how you can deal with death, hope this list helps

  • Cry

Cry about it. Yell, scream, release that pain out. Its natural to cry, i know some men or most men think crying is a taboo but its hella BS. cry it out okay. a day or 2 or a week if you have to.

  • Find comfort from family or friends

Call your friend, tell them about it, i am sure they will comfort you. Then allow yourself to be comforted too.

  • Take a walk

Taking a walk will help you breathe and sort of detach from the sudden shock, If you can take a walk in the park then even better! you will find yourself reflecting and thinking about the good memories you had with the lost loved one.

  • Create something

So this can help you release emotions too. Draw, sing, cook or bake, paint … there is a whole lot you can create in loving memory of your loved one. This also helps you understand that everything has a time limit. We are not on this earth forever. We will all die one day. So instead of feeling sad, let us celebrate the passing of a loved one.

  • Read books

I am a lover of personal development books. I found them to be one of the things that saved me from depression. So i suggest you get yourself a book of your choice and just drown your sorrows in it.

May #geesixfive soul rest in peace.
