One Mistake That Slows Down Your Metabolism

It is a well-known fact that to lose weight, you need to consume fewer calories than you burn during the day. But taking in too few calories, i.e. starvation, can have the opposite effect – accelerate fat storage, but also cause a series of health problems. This is one mistake that slows down your metabolism.

Our bodies are incredibly smart

Each of us wants to have a slim body line, but many unknowingly make certain mistakes. A calorie-deficit diet, which involves consuming fewer calories than you burn, is the foundation for weight loss. However, this can become counterproductive if you’re not getting enough calories to begin with. Our bodies are incredibly smart and when we drastically reduce our calorie intake, the body knows we’re not eating enough and slows down the rate at which it burns calories, thereby slowing down our metabolism.

This is a process that some people call “starvation mode.”

Our body will start storing the fat we already have in our body because it anticipates that it will not get any more food.

Mistake That Slows Down Metabolism

Instead of eating drastically less, focus on what you do eat and make sure it’s healthy and nutritious.

You should not practice skipping meals. The lack of calories during the day will force us to reach for the fastest solutions, which are usually unhealthy.

Food is fuel and should never be skipped. Focusing on three protein-rich meals and nutritious snacks is a much healthier way to maintain a calorie deficit and lose weight.

Protein is needed for muscle growth. But also for many other reasons, including maintaining a healthy weight.
